CROW Education and Marketing Internship

Program Description:


The Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW) is a teaching hospital and visitor education center dedicated  to saving wildlife through state-of-the-art veterinary care, research, education and conservation medicine. CROW offers an opportunity for students interested in pursuing careers in Environmental Education, Communications or other related fields. During the internship, students will be provided an opportunity to learn about CROW on an organizational level and apply the information through public speaking engagements and outreach events. Students will also be provided an opportunity to learn about the impact of communication through social media outlets and community partnerships with local newspaper and media companies.  

Internship Term: January through April 2018 - minimum 25 hours per week

Compensation:


CROW’s Education & Marketing Internship is unpaid, but onsite housing is offered to applicants upon being accepted into the internship program (if needed). If the selected applicant has offsite housing, a transponder is provided for the Sanibel Causeway toll bridge.

Eligibility:


Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited university or college program at the undergraduate or graduate level OR be a recent college graduate to be eligible for CROW’s Education & Marketing internship. Due to the nature of the internship, any international applicants must speak English fluently. 

Roles and Responsibilities*: 

Visitor Center Daily Presentations & Specialty Programs (10-15 hours per week)


 o Regularly deliver daily presentations in CROW’s visitor center  
Includes leading guided tours of CROW’s hospital and rehabilitation grounds
o Assist staff to offer quality guest experiences and promote future support of CROW and its mission  Includes answering questions about upcoming educational offerings and specialty programs
o Assist staff with any format and/or outline edits of CROW “Wonders of Wildlife” Program Series Includes editing presentation notes and assisting with updates to program library
o Assist staff with husbandry and maintenance of education exhibits and CROW’s animal ambassadors 
Includes learning appropriate handling and transportation methods

 Marketing & Public Relations (5-10 hours per week)


o Assist with content development for social media venues including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram o Assist with content updates and maintenance on website including pending wildlife patient lists, news articles, videos and wildlife patient releases  
Includes updating monthly program calendars to reflect current educational offerings 
o Provide insight and ideas for media stories such as newspaper articles and weekly news segments 
o Assist with photography and videography during wildlife patient releases 

 CROW Outreach Programs & Events (1-5 hours per week)


o Offer opportunities for public engagement at community events 
Includes answering questions about CROW and its daily operations via informational booths  Includes providing supervised visitation with CROW’s animal ambassadors
o Offer opportunities for public engagement at local civic groups and businesses  
Includes delivering offsite programs at the discretion of the Education Coordinator 
Includes providing supervised visitation with CROW’s animal ambassadors
o Assist with the facilitation of CROW fundraising events (as needed)




The internship begins in January and goes through the end of April. It is a 25 hour per week (minimum) time commitment, and candidates must submit a completed application package before they will be considered for the position:

Planned Parenthood Reproductive Health Blogger Internship

Title: Reproductive Health Blogger 
Department: Public Affairs and Communications
Reports To: Marketing and Branding Coordinator

 Essential Function/Purpose of the Position:


 Planned Parenthood of Southwest and Central Florida (PPSWCF) is in need of interns to create new blog posts on the topics of reproductive health, sexual health education (sex-ed), women’s rights, and gender issues. 

Duties and Responsibilities:


1. Each intern would be assigned a writing topic Friday. 
2. They will have until the following Thursday night at 11pm to submit their completed assignment for the week. 
3. Each week, the topics will be rotated between interns, unless specific content is needed to be created for special events or purposes (special assignment). 
4. In case of that event, an intern will be randomly chosen to write on the special assignment. This process of rotation will continue throughout the semester. Exceptions will be made for the week of spring break and academic finals at the end of the semester.   
5. A minimum of one blog post must be written per intern per week for the duration of the internship.


If an intern chooses to write more, that assignment will be accepted, but the assigned topic of the week should take precedent.

Writing Guidelines 


A blog post will be defined as an engaging creation of original content on the topic of the week. This post must be between 300-400 words. Keywords can be supplied to assist in the brainstorming process.  


ALL blog posts have to written for Generation Z. They are the target audience. Be careful of jargon and using words that are too “academic”. We need to make sure our message is being crafted for our audience to read, digest, and share. 


Quotes and stats should be timely and relevant to subject. (If stats on a subject have been updated since 2013, use the most recent information.) o If using a stat or quote, create a separate document in addition to the post with the list of links from which sources were quoted/stats were taken.

Knowledge, Skill and Ability: 


Strong interpersonal, and written communications skills and experience working with diverse communities and in a team-oriented environment.  
Demonstrate ability to commit to a project and see it through. 
Solid digital research experience

Qualifications: 


Must be currently enrolled in 4-year accredited university. This must be for academic credit. This internship is unpaid. Must be available for check in calls or meetings with intern supervisor. Strong preference for previous blogging experience.  Must be committed to the goals and ideals of Planned Parenthood.
