Qualifications
The VCB PR intern must be organized, have strong oral and
written communication skills, computer proficiency (solid PC skills including
Microsoft Office 2007), strong attention to details, ability to keep deadlines,
and ability to multi-task. Experience in
the tourism industry is a plus but not required. Knowledge of social media, photography and videography skills is a plus!
VCB PR Interns will be responsible for a wide range
of duties including:
1. Database input, monitoring and distribution
of clips
2. Communication with industry partners and
clients (electronic and verbal)
3. Assisting with incoming phone calls
4. Assistance with media research, fact-checking
and follow-up
6. Website monitoring for Communications
8. Coordination of Welcome bags for incoming
journalists and groups
9. Data and report compilation
10. Research and write news releases
12. Update attractions news release
13. Other duties as assigned
This intern will gain experience in the following areas:
Public Relations: Gain an understanding of the critical role
that the VCB/PR plays in promoting Lee County as a tourism destination.
Hone skills: Practical use of written
and oral communications skills that are critical to any career.
Media relations: Learn to work with
the journalists to best achieve your organization goals.
Industry relations: Learn to work as a
team within an office environment as well as with the tourism industry.
We will have an opening available the first week in May for
a PR/Communications intern. This is a paid internship
and the hourly rate is $10.00. We would need at least 20 hours per week and
would also be able to provide 40 hours of work during the summer months and
during school breaks.
