Communications/Public Relations Internship 2018/2019
Job Description
Intern will be working directly with the publisher of a series of super-fun family-oriented local
guidebooks.
This internship covers 135 hours with the opportunity to add hours for more credit as needed.
The schedule is flexible to accommodate the intern’s class/work schedule.
PRESS RELEASES AND PUBLICITY
Help write and distribute news releases and press kits. Maintain updated media contact lists.
MARKETING
Visit bookstores, children’s stores and gift shops to show books and deliver orders in Fort Myers,
on Sanibel and Captiva and Fort Myers Beach.
EVENTS
Help create and assemble materials and props for book signings and special events, and
participate in events.
BOOK RESEARCH AND COPY EDITING
Help update existing book and research next book, primarily via websites.
ADMINISTRATIVE
Prep books for distribution and perform miscellaneous clerical duties.
SOCIAL MEDIA
Assist with postings to Twitter and Facebook.
Internship Details
This is an unpaid position, but a successful internship will result in the intern’s name appearing on
the credits page of the book in progress. Mileage will be reimbursed for assigned store or research
visits, special events and company business.
Intern must bring his/her own laptop for work in the office and have reliable Internet access when
working remotely. This internship involves driving, and the cost of mileage is reimbursed.
Required skills
*Impeccable spelling, grammar and attention to detail.
*Confident in-person communication skills and a desire to work with the public.
*Must have been a child at one time and remember how outrageously fun it can be.
About Mostly Kids’ Guides
The company is a Florida LLC under the direction of Karen T. Bartlett, a well-known travel writer
and photographer who is the author/photographer of 12 destination travel books.
The first book in the Mostly Kids’ Guides series, “A (mostly) Kids’ Guide to Naples, Marco Island &
The Everglades,” is now in approximately 50 stores throughout Southwest Florida. It is also on sale
through Barnesandnoble.com and Amazon.com. The book recently won a top national award as
one of top three travel books of the 2016.
The second book, “A (mostly) Kids’ Guide to Sanibel & Captiva Islands and the Fort Myers Coast,”
is targeted for a November 2016 release. The third book, scheduled for 2019, is in development
stages.
About Karen T. Bartlett
Karen’s work has appeared in thousands of articles throughout North America and the Caribbean.
She is the former travel editor of Gulfshore Life magazine. She formerly owned a leading
Atlanta/Naples public relations firm. Bartlett’s office is in her home in Pelican Bay in North Naples.
